When the pandemic made an in-person Spring and Fall 2020 commencement ceremonies impossible, Metro State University in Denver decided to create virtual commencement experiences that would honor their new graduates. To ensure the virtual event was engaging, they hired Bespoke, an experiential marketing agency, who then turned to CEAVCO for expert production support. Together, we created two cohesive, professional 3.5-hour commencements and then streamed the ceremonies to large audiences that included students and their families and friends.

CEAVCO prerecorded presentations from 40 speakers in our professional studio. We also recorded the reading of 2,327 graduates’ names and then synced each voiceover with an individual slide showing each graduate’s photo, name, school, and honors.

Our creative services support included development of a pre-show video that featured the national anthem, a welcome address, a spoken word poem from Theo E.J. Wilson, drone footage of Metro State, and the playing of Pomp and Circumstance by Boulder Brass, a chamber brass ensemble. The commencement itself was close captioned, and viewers could choose either English or Spanish subtitles.

The entire commencement was produced, filmed, and edited in CEAVCO’s studio and streamed to the Metro State website using Vimeo. The emotional, entertaining ceremony was successfully streamed to thousands of viewers. The response has been extremely positive, with university faculty, alumni, guests, graduates, and their families appreciative of the production value and the opportunity to celebrate this important milestone.
