Washington, DC-based National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) is the place where apartment industry leaders come together to guide their future success. As a nationwide forum for insight, advocacy, and action, NMHC needed continuity of audio visual production service, reliable equipment and labor, and standard pricing at their six annual events held at locations around the country.
To support these diverse NMHC events with up to 4,000 industry experts in attendance, CEAVCO offers the consistency of staff, service, quality, and pricing NMHC requires. We travel with NMHC to provide audio, video, lighting, staging, and set design for their events in Washington, DC, Chicago, Orlando, San Diego, Huntington Beach, and Denver.
Says Jennifer Angebranndt, NMHC Vice President of Meetings, “I appreciate CEAVCO’s professionalism, can do and easygoing approach to projects, and flexibility in finding a solution. With regard to logistics, I love knowing that CEAVCO has my back and is a top-notch company with the necessary tech expertise to pull off flawless events, freeing me up to deal with other elements of meeting management. CEAVCO isn’t just a hired AV equipment supplier – they’re part of our team.”
These days, there’s lots of debate about TED-style talks. Many planners aren’t sure if their meetings and events should include these kinds of short, personal talks or if they should avoid them altogether. Are TED-style talks a hit or merely hype? Watch our entertaining eight-minute myth buster video to find out!
Congratulations to CEAVCO Audio Visual President Matt Emerson, who is celebrating 30 years with the company!
Matt was hired as the VP of Finance by his father, Jack Emerson, on May 22, 1989. Matt was the 15th employee of the company, which Jack founded in 1961. When Matt started in 1989, the company primarily sold audio visual equipment and had a two-person rental department. In 2003, Matt became the company’s executive vice president, and in 2013 he was named president.
“We no longer sell equipment, and equipment rentals are a much smaller piece of our business,” says Matt. “CEAVCO is an example of how companies can thrive by adapting to changes in the industry. I’m really proud of our reputation and our relationships with our clients. Though it may sound clichéd, we do everything we can to help our clients meet their objectives. That’s our niche and our passion.”
Meeting planners and our corporate and association clients take their meetings and events very seriously. CEAVCO, in turn, takes very seriously the hiring and retention of dedicated employees who are committed to making planners’ lives easier and helping them achieve their vision. And while the CEAVCO of today barely resembles the CEAVCO of 30 years ago, one thing has remained the same: the team’s dedication to sharing industry knowledge and providing exceptional support to our valued clients.
Says Matt, “Jack grew the company he loved for 52 years, and for the past 30 years I’ve had a challenging and rewarding career that I love. I’m deeply appreciative of the opportunity my father gave me. We have a great workplace, a great team, and great clients and partners — I honestly couldn’t ask for more. I’m amazed by the evolution of the company over last 30 years, and I can’t wait to see what the future will bring!”
In this short CEAVCO Audio Visual spotlight, CEAVCO President Matt Emerson talks about our brand promise, Love What You See and Hear. This brand promise relates not only to what event attendees see and hear but also to how we want our clients to feel when they work with us. A lot of little things make CEAVCO different. For one thing, we’re intentional in learning about our clients’ needs and desired outcomes. For another, we do what we say we’re going to do. Our clients trust us to help them make each new event better than the last.
CEAVCO Audio Visual regularly partners with the world’s best audio visual companies, which enables us to travel with our clients wherever their events are happening while ensuring consistency of staff, service, and quality. Through our active membership in the Rental & Staging Network (RSN) and AV Alliance, CEAVCO team members collaborate with other industry leaders to discuss best practices, technology solutions, and lessons learned.
CEAVCO is a founding member of RSN, a highly selective professional organization of top-tier North American audio visual production companies. RSN members provide a consistent level of professionalism, capabilities, and live event production experience nationwide. AV Alliance, in turn, is an international network of the world’s best audio visual production companies. As AV Alliance continues to expand its global reach, cooperation among members is reaching new heights. Member companies are working together to provide exceptional audio visual production support for events worldwide.
Eric Newkirk, CEAVCO Vice President of Design and Creative, attended a recent RSN Symposium, showing CEAVCO’s commitment to creating value for our clients and their attendees by sharing innovative ideas that are advancing the industry. The RSN network is growing, with the addition of new Canadian members, Toronto-based Bespoke Audio Visual and Montreal-based Expert*Ease.
In addition, owners of AV Alliance member companies, including CEAVCO’s Matt Emerson, recently met in Las Vegas to engage in lively discussions on such topics as business growth, market challenges, recruitment opportunities, and event production skills development.
Membership in RSN and AV Alliance keeps CEAVCO at the forefront of diverse event design and production technologies and trends. Membership also gives CEAVCO the global reach needed to support conferences, corporate meetings, town halls, and product presentations anywhere around the globe.
Perhaps the greatest highlight of this year’s Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was the live video conversation on April 9 between Air Force General John J. Raymond at the Broadmoor and Expedition 59 Flight Engineer Nick Hague of NASA aboard the International Space Station. U.S. Air Force Colonel Hague discussed his military heritage and his life and work on the orbital outpost with General Raymond, the commanding general of U.S. Air Force Space Command. Colonel Hague is in his second month of a six-and-a-half-month mission aboard the complex.
Here’s an excerpt from an email sent by U.S. Air Force Colonel Westover to the members of the NASA, Space Symposium, and CEAVCO Audio Visual team that made this conversation possible: “The audience was packed with thousands of the world’s space industry leaders (including NASA), and standing room only in the overflow rooms – the whole of the conference tuned in to see the NASA team rock their world. Mitch Brown [General Raymond’s aide] said later that General Raymond was hounded all day by folks saying how cool the downlink was – especially his water magic at the end.”
During the conversation, Colonel Hague talks about the power of team and collective accomplishments. We couldn’t agree more. Establishing the video link was critical, and expectations regarding staging, imagery, and lighting were literally sky high. CEAVCO’s team, including Brian Miller, Steve Struble, Rick Eichenberger, Eric Newkirk, and Nick Williams, was instrumental in making this inspirational, tightly timed conversation happen.
The Space Foundation’s Space Symposium is the premier global, commercial, civil, military, and emergent space conference. Each year, the Space Symposium brings together space leaders from around the world to discuss and dream about the future of space. The event attracts more than 11,000 attendees from 30 nations. This was CEAVCO’s 13th year of support, and together NASA, the Space Symposium, and CEAVCO knocked it out of the park. Go team!
Happy Earth Day 2019 from CEAVCO Audio Visual! We’re honored to do our part in supporting the environmental movement by installing a solar energy PV system at our facility in Arvada, Colorado.
Says CEAVCO President Matt Emerson, “By installing a solar PV system, we’re modernizing our office, lowering our energy costs, and reducing our carbon footprint. We’ve been in business for 58 years, and our clients hold us to the highest possible standards. Environmental responsibility is important to our clients, our team, and our entire community.”
CEAVCO’s sustainability initiatives are projected to reduce energy use at the company’s 33,827-square-foot facility by 94 percent, supplying almost all of CEAVCO’s electrical needs throughout the year.
CEAVCO has invested in these energy efficiency improvements through the Colorado C-PACE program. The C-PACE program decreases the barriers to entry for commercial solar and enables businesses to access affordable, long-term financing for their projects with no money down. Namasté Solar installed the project.
In this short CEAVCO Spotlight, CEAVCO’s Pete Goetz describes how our team members regularly collaborate with planners to learn about their goals and desired outcomes. For example, some planners want attendees to be educated, some want attendees to be entertained, and some want a combination of the two. As Pete explains, understanding our clients’ goals and desired outcomes enables us to design the environment with intention and help our clients create exceptional events.
Over the past couple years, CEAVCO Audio Visual has been hiring many new employees to expand our Account Management, Production, Warehouse, and Creative Services departments. This week, we’d like to give a warm welcome to Account Executive Newell Besendorfer and Project Manager Brett Kolesarek.
As an Account Executive, Newell maintains relationships with prospective and current clients and serves as the point person for new business opportunities. He attends site visits, conducts capabilities presentations, presents clients and prospects with new show ideas, hosts prospects at events produced by CEAVCO, and works closely with clients throughout the event lifecycle to ensure they receive exceptional service.
As a Project Manager, Brett handles the detail-oriented planning and execution of client events. He oversees project scope and budgets; handles venue coordination and permitting; oversees onsite labor, including CEAVCO staff, independent contractors, and union labor; creates effective production schedules, floor plans, and diagrams; works closely with clients throughout the event lifecycle; and performs post-show reporting.
In the competitive events industry, CEAVCO’s high employee retention rate and high client satisfaction rate reinforce the care and attention we pay to both our people and our long-term clients. Newell and Brett make great additions to our team, and we’re glad to have them on board. We’re especially excited that they share our commitment to making sure our clients love what they see and hear!
